Students of the American University of Peace Studies received their diplomas at the 2024 graduation ceremony held in Georgetown, Guyana.
President of the American University of Peace Studies, Dr. Eton Simon presented the Fellows Program 2024 grant award to representative of the Guyana Police Force.
This program is designed to ensure participants gain a deep insight of the relationship between accountability and good governance. Focusing on the pillars of ethics, transparent auditing structures, fraud and corruption and internal control measures and also focus on policy and programme evaluation in government.
Participants will learn the importance of civic engagement by utilizing the options available to everyone. To participate in community activity, to volunteer, how to work within non governmental organizations and how the government works, in particular the electoral process.
The NPD courseware focuses on building practical skills and knowledge. Modules include, investigation techniques, early evaluations, dispute system design, negotiation, mediation and arbitration among others.
Uniquely designed, this program sets out to transfer knowledge to students on the elements of diversity. looking in depth at anti-racism, gender identities, cultural sensitivity and HR compliance training. The program will also focus on anti sexism and building mutual trust and respect.
Concentration will be on the fundamental components of democracy and the rule of law. Topics covered include, human rights, democracy as a form of government, electoral processes, the rule of law in a democratic setting, the conflict of rights and the justice system.
Within our conflict resolution program are 5 core learning topics. Accomodating, compromising, defeating, avoiding and collaborating. We aim to explore these areas with a goal to help students understand how to interpret conflict and how to resolve them through meaningful strategies.
